Is a 70Ah enough for a family sedan, or am I being cheap?
-
My wife and I had a small disagreement in the car park yesterday, and I want some outside opinions before it turns into a bigger one. Our Honda Accord needs a new battery. It has been slow to start for about two weeks, mostly in the afternoon after the car sits in the sun. I want to buy a 70Ah because it matches the old one and the price is fair. She thinks I am just saving money and says we should buy the biggest battery in the shop, because the summer here is so hot. I read a bit online and found a Premium Varta 70Ah battery in the UAE, and from what I understood the Ah number shows how much power the battery can store, so the right size depends on what the car needs and not on how big the battery is. That sounded sensible to me, but I would like to hear it from real owners. Does a bigger battery really last longer in this heat, or does it only cost more? Can one that is too big cause trouble with the fit or the cables? Our car has no extras, just a radio, a phone charger and a dash cam, so I do not think we need extra capacity. Another question is the date on a new battery. Where do I find it, and how old is too old? Is one year warranty normal, and should the shop check the alternator before fitting? If you drive a normal family sedan and changed your battery lately, please tell me what size you chose, what you paid, and how long it lasted. Easy answers help me most, and I need a winning argument at home.
