We run a food court stall in a mall in Abu Dhabi and the mall management recently sent out a notice saying all tenants need to segregate waste properly, and they specifically mentioned that a 3 compartment trash can is now expected at each stall. I am trying to figure out how serious this is, because honestly adding one more thing to our tiny counter space is not ideal and they are not cheap either. My question is whether anyone has actually been inspected on this or fined, or is it one of those policies that exists on paper and nobody checks. Also practically speaking, do people even use the compartments correctly or does everything just end up in the general waste slot anyway. Our staff turnover is high and training everyone on segregation feels like a losing battle. Would love to hear from other food businesses whether this is worth taking seriously or if I can drag my feet on it.
